I want to find a mp4 video test file, to test that my media player is outputting sound to the speakers correctly. Not just a 5.1 movie or clip, but an actual test file that isolates each speaker individually, like front right, rear left, rear right, etc. I thought hundereds would be on google, but I can't find even one. Living World of Audio 1, Download, 1080p H.264 (MKV), DTS 5.1 1,536 Kbps 48. The sound m getting, surround effect is not there,I even went to cinema several. Where the test sound play 30 sec in each speaker instead of just few seconds.
Hi,Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community Forums. What is the make and model of the computer?Which audio driver are you using? In order to output 5.1 surround sound, the sound card and the audio device (Speakers) must have 5.1 support and not all sound cards are configured to output 5.1 surround signal. Peer,Thanks for your timely response. Please see below my computer information that you have requested:My computer is a home build.Sound is incorporated in the Motherboard which is a Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard with an Intel Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 Ghz (4.7 Ghz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95WBX0K Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630The audio driver is a Realtek® Semiconductor Corp., Realtek High Definition Audio driver, dated 12/4/19, version 6.0.1.8586. The Digital Signer is Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher version 10.0.17763.1 (WinBuild.1)Jack Information is:L R Green Rear Panel 3.5 mm JackRL RR Black Rear Panel 3.5 mm JackC Sub Orange Rear Panel 3.5 mm JackSL SR Gray Rear Panel 3.5 mm JackSpeaker Setup is 5.1 Surround and tests properly. The version of Windows that I am running is: Edition: Windows 10 HomeVersion: 1809Installed: 5/19/2019OS build: 17763.557In addition to providing you with my computer information above I have completed the rest of your suggestions. My system configuration is set up for 5.1 surround (and it tests properly) so this is not the issue.I updated 14 drivers using Drive Easy software. Included in this update were:-AMD High Definition Audio Device-High Definition Audio Base-Realtek Audio Effects Component-Realtek Audio Universal Service-Realtek Hardware Support-Realtek High Definition AudioAfter all this I am still only getting stereo. Once again this leads me to believe there is a compatibility issue (Windows 10 problem) as others have suggested.
If Microsoft doesn't have a fix then I have options. 1) is to buy a soundcard with specific drivers or 2) revert back to Windows 8.Please advise what your thoughts are at this point.Greg.
No, I never heard back from Microsoft Support Group but this doesn't surprise me through my past experiences over the last 35 years. I suspect that they won't support a home build computer even though all my components are qualified Microsoft parts and wellknown.I did buy a discrete 5.1 sound card and that didn't resolve the problem.
The only thing I have left to try is to buy some new 5.1 surround sound speakers and see if my old speakers were the problem. Until then I will just have to settle with stereo. Thanks for asking.

Hi all, it has about a year i am running windows 10, mostly the system is running great, but i have been waiting for microsoft to fix the sound issue, i did try all the fixes out there and i still do not get the 5.1 surround sound, both digital and analogconnections. Is there a chance that microsoft will ever look into that problem or shall i just roll back to windows 7 in which i had no problems at all?And for the headset the mic refuses to work with windows 10 as well.in case you want my PC specs are as following:Asus X-99-AIntel i7-5820 3.3Ghz16GB 2300Mhz DDR4120GB SSD1TB seagate 7200rpm500GB seagate 7200rpmAudio devices:Denon AVR 1610 spdif connection 5.1 speakersRoccat Kave 5.1 surround headset (analog connection). Hi Jeka,There are some reasons why you don't get the 5.1 surround sound. Some of these are caused by the type of audio format, how the file was encoded, if the file supports 5.1 surround sound and such.
For us to determine what's causingthe concern more precisely, please provide information on the following:. The type of file that you're trying to play. Troubleshooting steps done to rectify this concernFor now, before we go to a more in-depth troubleshooting, we suggest you runLook for Find and fix problems playing sounds.Don't hesitate to update us if you need further assistance.Best regards. Hi, i am using different type of files and tried a veriety of programs. Most test files i downloaded from mysurround.com which has test files with a surround sorce coding.I have tried reinstalling the latest drivers for the system and it didn't work. Did try moded drivers which should of make it work but it still doesn't.And i did try the same drivers on wibdows 7 virtual machine through WM ware and the thing is that it does work on windiws 7 OS.Basically i am clueless of what else i could try so it would work, as i believe i have tryed about 90% i have found on the internet including those on Microsoft's website sorty that i can't give you links to all the solutions i have tryed. I had everything working before. The only thing thats changed over the last ten years in my htpc is the operating system upgrades.
Not sure at what point dolby digital stopped working as i havent had my speakers all set up in 3 years (boughta house and just got around to setting up all the speakers in my living room), but when i play a video all i get is logic 7. I can hear DD in the sound settings when i “test” the speakers, all five make a sound, but movies revert to 2 channel, all of them, ive tried a dozen different movies, three different players, checked all settings numerous times. Then i read some posts and realized a lot of people with windows 10 are having the same issue. And then the idiots like yourself that ask, ‘are you sure you havea DD source, certain video types, you need hardware to support multi channel surro.’ Blah Blah Blah. You mentioned that you haven't used your speaker for a long time and your computer installed many system updates.
Just to clarify, is the sound card of your computer also updated? The sound card driver of your computer may be outdated that is why the surroundsound function is not working when watching movies. We recommend that you check the support website of your sound card to see if there is an updated driver software.
If so, we recommend that you install it so that the surround sound will function properly.Regards.
